Introduction

Gateways is a fortnightly meeting place for men in their "middle years" who are experiencing difficulties with employment.

"Difficulty" means unemployed, under- employed or perhaps even over-  employed. The primary aim of the group is to break down the isolation that men can and often experience when employment difficulties emerge at this critical time of life.

Many men rely heavily on the workplace to deliver a sense of personal and social worth. Men in particular can become vulnerable to a range of physical and mental difficulties when negative employment issues arise.

Gateways seeks to offer understanding and support in a non- intrusive and friendly way.

Gateways meets every fortnight on a Wednesday evening at 7pm.  The meetings are informal and are intended to be socially enjoyable.  The current venue is Wavecare Counselling Service which is located at 155 Coleman Parade, Glen Waverley.  There is parking on site.  No costs are involved.

There are a number of projects emerging at Gateways.  These include: the creation of a resource kit to assist men to rebuild their lives when they become unemployed (or unsatisfactorily employed).

The web site is designed to be a useful tool for men who are experiencing employment difficulties and/or want to know more about what resources exist, particularly for people over 45 and will be continually updated. Gateways is supported by Wavecare Counselling Service
